I hope this thread is okay and if it is, I won't be trampled by Spuffy's and Bangels Anyways, I thought it would be very nice to have a thread dedicated to Ruffy, Buffy/Riley. They were in a relationship for a season and a half, I mean!
I, unlike most, love Ruffy beyond Bangel and Spuffy. I think Ruffy is the one relationship that Buffy ever had that was what she wanted. People argue that he's boring, but really, compared to a vampire that has a tortured soul and a vampire that is a murderous killer, it's hard to compare in being "not boring". imo, I thought he was plenty interesting, with the Initiative. I, yes, I did, liked how they dealt with that government thing. Sorry. Anyways, I thought Riley was a nice, semi-normal boy that she could have a real life with, if she wanted to. The break-up was all Buffy's fault, imo. She wanted that but then she decided that she really wanted the danger and action more, like an AR. But, that does not make Buffy a bad person to me. I think she was just realizing her real feelings. When she had a bad boy, she wanted someone normal. When she was with a normal boy, she wanted a bad boy.
That is really why I loved Ruffy when they were together, because it was someone Buffy could be happy with.

I have to say I didn't like this relationship the first time I saw season 4 and 5. But I've started to grow to like the relationship a lot more when I rewatched the seasons.
Now, I prefer Ruffy over Spuffy.
I think the reason why many people thought this relationship was boring was because of Riley. Many viewers think Riley is boring and always blame Riley for the failure of this relationship. I can understand why Riley came across as boring - because he was normal. In a show like Buffy, normal = boring.
As for the failure of this relationship, I think both was at fault (not just Riley as many have claimed). Buffy was definietly at fault in my opinion.
I enjoyed Ruffy's relationship (and Riley) a lot in season 4 than in season 5.

I agree with you there. Buffy decided to ignore him a lot in S5 and then didn't give him any time to explain his actions. With that said, Riley definietly shouldn't have gone off and got himself bitten by vamps just to "feel". But, still, he did that because of Buffy.

Same here! (as you can tell, lol) But, imo, Season 5 was an okay relationship. I enjoyed Season 4 Ruffy MUCH better than Season 5. _________________

What I don't understand is how viewers look down on Riley for getting bitten by a vampire in order to 'feel' when a certain slayer did the same thing in season 6 and didn't get much flake for it. And she slept with the vampire!
I think the main reason why the relationship didn't work out was because they didn't understand each other well enough. Riley didn't understand that Buffy was strong enough to take care of herself and don't need a man to lean on everytime there's a problem. And Buffy didn't understand that Riley is the kind of guy who needs to be needed.
If they understood each other and know each other well enough, I believe that they could have lasted much longer.

I actually agree, I think.
I really never thought about the boyfriend being bitten = the girl having sex, all to feel! Good thinking!
I agree about the understanding thing. Riley can't stand being on the sidelines and not being the "strong one". Buffy likes to work alone, and Riley wants to help, but, Buffy doesn't care about his help. I completely agree with that!
If they understood each other, imo, they would have broken up sooner. They would have realized they weren't for each other, imo. _________________

If they understood and adapted to each, they would have lasted longer, in my opinion.
But that is if they compromise and adapt to each other.

Eh, we know Buffy. Would they REALLY compromise and adapt? I really think that Buffy would just shove him off, unfortunately. _________________

I gotta disagree with you there - on the part that Buffy wouldn't compromise and adapt. I think she will. She was willing to compromise when she was with Angel so she does have the compromise bone in her body.
But it really comes down to how much she loves Riley. I don't believe that she loved Riley as much as she loved Angel so on that I doubt she would compromise and adapt for him. If she did love Riley as much as Angel, I do think she'll compromise just to make the relationship work.

That's what I meant. I know they would compromise but we know Buffy and we've seen her with Riley later on in their relationship. She kind of stopped caring and paying attention to him, which caused the whole vamp bitting thing.
