LOTRI've finally started re-watching these movies. Haven't seen them since the summer of 2005 when me and my brother parked our butts in his sofa, pulled down the screen and started up the projector to watch the extended versions all in one sitting. I actually found myself to have forgotten how 'The Fellowship of the Ring' started. I couldn't remember that Cate Blanchett told the story of what had been and what was about to become.
I guess it's good to let about 2 years go between the times of watching the movies.
I know alot of people became very crazy about LOTR when it first came out and I'm curious to see if these people still are as nuts about it now as they were then. Personally my heat has chilled down a bit, I even had to convince myself for about a week to watch it.. because the extended is so long and everything.. and if I see one, I gotta see 'em all!

I have seen all the LotR films maybe 5 times - once at a movie theater, and after that I have watched the DVDs. I love those films, maybe even more than I love the books. The special extended edition DVDs are very good in my opinion - long, but I like them more than the original ones.
I think the films are just stunningly beautiful, the actors are great and the story always manages to move me. My favourite characters are Sam, Aragorn and Eowyn. In my opinion Sam is the true hero of the story - the one who stays in the background but never gives up. He's so loyal and kind, I adore him. Aragorn on the other hand is just - hot. A true hero. And Eowyn is my favourite female character. She's brave and maybe even stubborn, and the scene where she kills the Nazgul saying "I am no man" (or something like that) is probably one of my favourite scenes in the whole series.
Also the evil characters are well portrayed, Christopher Lee is very good as Saruman.

I don't what it is, but it seems that everytime I say that FotR is my favorite movie, I seem to get flogged! I don't know what it is, but it's pretty much the one that I can watch over and over. I mean when I saw the films in theatres, each time the next one came out I would say that that one was my favorite, but once I had them on DVD it seems that FotR is the only one I can really rewatch...maybe it's just my mood? I dunno...

I agree with you! I think the Fellowship is the best of the three. Maybe because it's more character-based than story-driven. I dunno. But I am a huuuuge fan of the books and the films. Not as much as I was about a year ago, but still watch the movies every once in a while. Aragorn and Gandalf are the coolest characters ever.
Does anyone else have the soundtracks? If not, I recommend them. Very beautiful.

I love the soundtracks, all the score is awesome to use for videos and whatnot so I definitly have those! (though I lost the first and second in a HD crash a while back )
After watching all the movies again I can honestly say that I kinda found the scenes with Frodo, Sam and Gollum, as they travel to Mordor kinda irritating. I get the whole thing, I do, so don't get me wrong, but the whole thing about Frodo being consumed by the ring and Gollum doing all he can to get the ring from Frodo and Sam fighting for Frodo and crying because Frodo pushes him away.. kinda irritating I found myself wanting to see more of the other storylines, of Gandalf, Aragorn, Merry, Pippin, Faramir and Eowyn. They were what drove me to watch all these movies as extended again. Their stories, and the way we see how Merry and esp. Pippin grow during this time in their life is really interesting. They go from these carefree, a bit of food theifs, dancing and stealing fireworks like children to grown men who fight for the good, even if they know that they will probably go to their doom (though, thankfully, they don't!). They take responsibility and they want to help make the world a better place.
These are the things that I find the whole story to be interesting, that makes me want to go back, or even see more of the movies. Sadly I've never gotten around to finishing the books, got halfway through 'The Two Towers' I think and then I kinda drifted and now it's been about 1½ years or more since I opened up those books, which makes me sad because they are very well written and I love the movies and I loved reading the first book, they're just very heavy and I've never been a big reader of books. But I intend to read all of them from cover to cover this year!

Wow ! A LOTR thread
Mae Govannen everyone, (lol, I'm a geek, don't bother)
These movies are my bible so yeah, I can say I like them. To be clear, LOTR IS my fandom. If I had to chose between any fandom, it'll be Middle Earth, Hobbits and Love hehe !
I think that It's the only fandom I can watch/read and totally get somewhere else. I feel so close to Samwise Gamgee in many aspects and I was nicely surprised to see that Sean Astin was the actor who would play him.
I have so many things I would love to say about it, too many. I have the soundtracks (original and full version) so I can send them to you Dana.
About the book, it's a universe. It's dense, it's rich but it's not easy to get into. J.R.R Tolkien wasn't really writing a book for others, it was like a world around the languages he created (Quenya, Sindarin, etc...) So you really have to work and focus to get the series of books. I highly recommend The Silmarillion (best book ever) which is the Middle Earth Bible, in some way.
Anyway

I must say I'm trying hard to get back to the books. I've recently (as mentioned above) watched all the movies and it was so much fun seeing them again and I remember trying to read the books. Unlike many other not-so-nutty people who's tried reading them and failing, after several tries, I actually liked the pace the books had and the way the story was told. I just got a bit thrown off when reading it in swedish, especially after watching the movies again, I just couldn't hear the characters in my head or find them right since they had swedish names and no longer the originals..
So I've decided I'm gonna try and get hold of the books in the original language - english. I do enjoy reading books in english so why I tried reading this one in swedish is beyond me. Just like if I'm ever going to read the Harry Potter books, no way I'm reading them in any other language BUT english!
Romain - I'd love to get those soundstracks *hugs*

Oh, I agree I've read them in french and there's minor changes to the names, i.e. Frodo is Frodon or Bilbo/Bilbon. The writing is nice but I do prefer the original because it's always more accurate to the feeling the author wanted to give.
Well, for the soundtrack, I'll see you on MSN

LotR thread! Yes!
I love these movies, but I haven't seen them awhile. I'll probably compare this post with the one I post after I re-watch. When I was watching FotR, I thought it was much too boring I loved the second and the third. I loved the first also, but not as much. As I said before, a little more boring. My favorite is probably the second, Two Towers, because of everything that happened! Frodo and Sam were annoying, a little, but that's just cause they're not doing much. I loved Mary and Pippin with the trees! I was so happy and excited when the trees slammed into the evil base place I thought the last battle scene was the best in all three movies. I also loved the third. It was probably the most exciting, but it seemed that was all it was, which isn't bad when you want to see a movie, but it was nice to see a little more in Two Towers.
